Tuesday September 20: Welcome, Mister Marshall

At 22.00 in the garden of Ses You – San Francisco Javier

Director: Luis García Berlanga

Synopsis: Villar del Río is a small, quiet, poor and forgotten, where nothing ever happens that is out of the routine. Only the arrival of the folk singer Manolo Vargas and Carmen, his attorney and agent, has been a novelty in the boring life of the people. However, that day comes suddenly a government delegate who announced that, from one moment to another, will commission the Marshall Plan (American economic project for the reconstruction of Europe). The village mayor decides that all people dress up in the purest Andalusian style to impress

Thursday September 22: We all call Ali

At 22.00 pm in the Plaza de la Iglesia de Sant Ferran de Ses Roques

Director: Rainer Werner Fassbinder

Synopsis: We all call Ali, considered by its author as one of his best films and unanimously acclaimed by critics, constitutes a unique case in Fassbinder’s work, leaving a rather pessimistic vision to embrace the possibility of utopia an impossible love ‘. Emmi (brilliantly performed by Brigitte Mira) achieved what no other heroine “fassbinderiana” bare their emotions all sense of ownership in relation to Ali … at least while the two try to survive the hostility that surrounds . The director feels so much love, sympathy and understanding for the unequal partner who refuses to break this union and would rather leave the door open to hope, however, will mean much less to the problems of Emmi and Ali: First there is his personal situation as a couple (friends?, marital relationship?) and then the society that hypocritically accepted as currency but as two human beings who love each other.
